A couple of days ago, my children landed up at the studio to watch me shoot. (Sometimes, in the routine of life, when work gets boring, that’s the best thing to do. Invite your kids over to your workplace!!) Now this would have been just another day in my life except that in conversation, my client addressed me by name. Zephan, my son, had a sudden change of expression. Pulling me down to his eye level, he asked me, “Dada, is your name Subi?”
I said, “Yes, Zephan, but you call me Dada!”
Not that my son was unaware that my name was Subi, but he was trying to figure this out in his head. It’s as if he realised that his dad has another identity beyond what he had known. It was as if he was sorting in his head that his dada was also called Subi.
Seeing him struggle with this, I pulled him close to myself and I told him, “Zeph, my name is Subi. But, I like it when you call me Dada.”
God revealed Himself to His servants with a new name whenever they were to be given a new revelation of Himself. He revealed Himself as El Shaddai, El Elyon, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Rophi, etc. But when Jesus was asked by his disciples to teach them how to pray, he told them to start by addressing Him as ‘Father‘
Let me confess. There is something about being called Dada that no other name can outdo! You can address me as pastor, buddy, Subi, whatever… But when my kids call me ‘Dada’, they win favour and attention that no other name can. ‘Dada’ is reserved for my kids ONLY!
I believe it is the same for our Heavenly Dada. You can call Him by all names possible, but the power of calling Him Dada is different (Click to Tweet). This name gives you access straight into His heart. I believe this name is a name that bypasses all logic.
Galatians 4:6 says “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!””
Do you see this? You are His son! And He is waiting to hear you call Him ‘DADA’!
